Riverside Penthouse

Wandsworth, London, United Kingdom, 2000–2002

Situated on the South bank of the River Thames, this 250 m2 penthouse and roof terrace have commanding views over the West London Thames landscape.

Internal planning was rationalised, with axial circulation leading from entry to a 90 m2 living space and then directly onto the main riverfront terrace. The apartment was stripped of all non-essential elements and new simplified detail and finishes were incorporated throughout, to provide a calm, light filled interior.

The palette of materials is relatively neutral, except for the extensive use of jarrah, a hard wearing Australian hardwood. This was used in all rooms, for flooring, joinery and furniture specifically designed for each space.

The richly coloured continuous floor surface forms a backdrop to the client’s furniture and art collection, and protection from the late afternoon sun is provided by a series of sliding translucent panels.
