Penthouse

Kensington, London, United Kingdom, 2014–2017

This project is located on the top floor and surrounding roof terraces of a seven storey apartment building in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Having lain empty for several years, the property was completely remodelled and upgraded to a standard appropriate for its location.

The 200 m2 rooftop apartment and terraces were stripped back to the essential structural elements and the original poorly planned layout was reconfigured to orientate all rooms to take advantage of the 360 degree views of the London skyline and to provide high quality residential accommodation.

In contrast to the unadorned walls, natural materials with inherent richness and texture complete the composition. Oiled walnut is used for flooring and joinery, Mandale limestone for kitchen and master bathroom surfaces, and white Sivec marble in guest bathrooms. Joinery throughout is crafted specifically for the project and, and with enhanced environmental performance and KNX control and monitoring, the new calm interior provides respite from the busy streets below.
